Steirud
Steirud Gård (farm) is located in Bardu Municipality in Troms. The farm, which was built by immigrants from Østerdalen between 1895 and 1910, is one of the oldest preserved residences in Bardu.
The location of the farm buildings is unlikely to have been a coincidence. The buildings are neatly placed on a wide moraine ridge running parallel with the Bardu River 200 m below. The sun returns early to Steirud. After Polar Nights in winter, we really appreciate the sun’s light and warmth. The farm’s total land area is 200 ha, og which 2.5 ha is cultivated.
Farm yard and buildings
When we bought Steirud in 1994, all the buildings were still intact. There is a farmhouse, summer house, barn, stable, elevated storehouse, summer barn and milking shed.
Apart from the farm house, the buildings were all in a poor state of repair, so we began a comprehensive restoration project. Due to the farm’s age and cultural heritage value, the renovation project has been handled in collaboration with the Department of Culture at the Troms County Council.
